Rural Polk County Resident – Home Library Model

I just pushed out an email to our rural resident library card holders. Please be prepared for questions.

Rural Resident Library Changes:

Home Library Model

Effective January 1, 2024

What is the Home Library Model? Rural residents in Polk County have been assigned a “home library” – the place where you’ll receive full services such as e-books, e-audiobooks and Adventure Passes. You will still be able to check out physical items and use in-person library services at any area library like you do now.

Webster Township residents will continue to have full access to Johnston Public Library as their home library with digital resources and Adventure Passes.

Below is a list of townships and their home library:

Clay, Camp, Delaware – Altoona Public Library

Elkhart, Lincoln, Crocker, Washington – Kirkendall Public Library

Franklin, Douglas – Bondurant Public Library

Beaver – Mitchellville Public Library

Four Mile – Pleasant Hill Public Library

Madison, Union – Polk City Public Library

Allen – Carlisle Public Library

Saylor – Des Moines Public Library

Jefferson – Grimes Public Library

If you live in one of the townships listed above and you are using electronic resources through Johnston Public Library, please contact your home library before December 31, 2023 to assure that your holds and lists are accessible.

We still welcome all residents of rural Polk County to borrow from our physical collection and attend our programs for all ages.
