IRS Made an Oopsie

I received the following from the IRS:

Notice 1451 corrects an error found on the IRA Deduction Worksheet — Schedule 1, Line 19 in the 2020 Instructions for Forms 1040 and 1040-SR: Line 3 of the worksheet should read “Enter the amount from Form 1040 or 1040-SR, line 9.”

I have placed Notice 1451 into the Instruction booklets for Forms 1040 and 1040-SR that are currently at the Bouncer Station and on the counter at the Reference Desk. I have made copies of Notice 1451 and placed them in a manila envelope in the box with the 1040/1040-SR booklets.

Before placing 1040/1040-SR booklets out for the public, please make sure that a copy of Notice 1451 has been tucked into the booklet. Errata Sheet Forms 1040 and 1040SR

Harassment Training [UPDATED]

UPDATE: Links for the harassment training meetings have been added below. You can attend live or wait until I share the recording.

The city’s HR department (Cyndee) has set up several sessions of harassment training via Zoom that will be required of all city staff. Supervisors (Megan, Beth, Dreama, Molly, and myself) will attend one of the 4 hour (!) supervisor trainings and everyone else will attend one of the 3 hour “line” level staff trainings. I realize that between personal and work commitments these times aren’t going to work for everyone.

The links for the respective meetings –

Filing New J Picture Books

We have begun our adventure in relabeling what we had formerly called EASIES to J PICTURE  books. We are adding  a category label ( such as Animals or Science), new barcodes, new Mylar coverings and new spine labels to the books.

What does this mean for  pre-shelving /shelving?  At this time please just interfile the books onto the Easies shelves by the AUTHOR’S LAST NAME .We won’t file by the category at this time.

Just a friendly reminder that it might be easy to confuse the J P label with the J F label of Junior Fiction,so we will need to watch that as we shelve.

We will wait until YS lets us know when we are ready to transition into filing the J Picture books  the new shelving bins.  Thank you!

New Staff Printers Coming Soon

The lease on the large printer in the staff area and the smaller one in the YS office is coming to an end. Those machines will be replaced with machines with similar functionality sometime in April. I assume the vendor will offer some kind of basic training on the machines. I’ll keep everyone posted.

Picture Book Categories Project

The time is finally here! YS, TS, and members of circulation have begun the re-labeling and categorizing of the picture book collection!

It has been a long term goal of mine to categorize picture books to make the collection more browsable and user friendly. After 4.5 years of waiting, the project has begun!

Many hours of research, discussions, and design went into this project and many more hours will go into this project to get the picture books categorized and re-labeled. I want to thank everyone for being a part of this project and open to the change that this will bring to so many of our processes.

I have included a link to my Picture Book Project presentation that I presented at the All-Staff Meeting. If you have any questions about this project, feel free to reach out to me!

Thanks again for all of your hard work!

Emptying Book Returns and Check-in Notes

Notes about Emptying Book Return and Check-in

Emptying the Book Return:

  1. Empty the book returns often, at least every two hours. Even if there is only a little to empty, it must be emptied every two hours. This is assigned on the desk schedule.
  2. When you empty the book returns, look for jams in the outdoor book return and empty the indoor book return.
  3. Put items on the red carts in the book return room. Mark the purple slip with the date and time you start a cart – you only need to fill out the purple slip when you are starting a new cart.
    1. If you are emptying the overnight book return, mark the last day the library was open on the purple slip if you are starting a new cart.
  4. Please fill the carts completely – top and bottom shelves – so we don’t run out of cart space.
  5. Leave red carts in the book return room. If all carts are full, please see Molly, Denise, or Lori E. or a circulation library associate
  6. If you have a bulky Learning Tool that doesn’t fit on a cart, leave it on top of the indoor book return until it can be checked in.
  7. Gloves are optional for emptying the book return. Wash or sanitize your hands after emptying the book return.

Check-in:

  1. Please continue to use a microfiber cloth and an all-purpose cleaner to wipe down materials at check-in.
  2. Pay special attention to the date items were returned and backdate as necessary.
  3. Wash or sanitize your hands after check-in.

Items from the cupboard above the sink

Hi All,

Space was getting tight in the breakroom cupboard. I pulled four cups ( a teal coffee thermos, a blender bottle, a magic bullet type mug, and a black coffee thermos) that were a little bulky and I hadn’t seen used recently. I put them on the small table in the breakroom.

If one of these items is yours and you do want it here, totally fine. Please just put it back in the cupboard.

If an item is yours and you want it but you can keep it at your workspace or in your basket to save space in the cupboard above the sink, reply to this email and I’ll grab it for you.

Let me know if you have questions.

Welcome Laurie and Riddhi

You have probably noticed two new faces at the library. Laurie Hazel and Riddhi Sheth started last week as Circulation Clerks.

We are very happy to have them here, and please take a moment to introduce yourself if you have not connected with them.

JPL no longer has a quarantine period after items are returned

Starting today, February 21st, there is no longer a three to five-day quarantine period after items are returned to the library.

Language about the quarantine period will be removed from email notices and our website tomorrow.  Remember that items deposited in the Beaver Creek Book Return will still have a delay.

Donations will continue to be placed in the East Meeting Room. Please do not leave them in the book return room.

Circulation staff will be emptying the book return at least every two hours, and our goal will be to process all items by the end of the day they are returned to the library.

Please let Molly know if you have questions.
