Note from city hall on this week’s paycheck

As many of you may have noticed your January 2, 2016 paycheck was deposited in your account today.  At this point, I don’t have an answer back from the bank as to why this happened.  Please let your fellow employees know, we are checking with the bank and we’ll share their response once we receive it.

DIY Blizzard

Check out the DIY Blizzard on the Archive glass!

Hopefully, patrons will begin to make their own coffee filter snowflakes. After snoflakes are made, signage directs them to come to Circ, Ref or YS desks and get a piece of tape to hang their snowflake on the string.

Each desk has a roll of double-sided tape for this purpose. Please give patrons one piece of double-sided tape per snowflake.

Thanks! Ask Beth or Lynne is you have questions.

Streaming video available through Bridges

Happy holidays from the Bridges Team
The Bridges team has been taking questions about adding streaming video to the collection for some time, so we are pleased to announce we will be piloting a limited selection of video titles.  They will be available for your patrons later today or tomorrow.   We chose to add “Always Available” titles, which means they may be checked out by multiple patrons at one time and are only available for one year.  These are purchased as a package and include titles from PBS, as well as older classics.   This will give us a chance to see if and how videos might be used by Bridges patrons.  To see what is in the collection, you will be able to browse and filter by format.  Because of budget restrictions, we will not be taking patron requests for other titles.  We will try to make that clear on the request form.
Advantage libraries (those that purchase their own library collections in addition to the Bridges titles) have been limited to formats available in the entire collection.  Now, they’ll be able to add more video to their own collections if they choose.
We will be holding online “town hall” meetings to talk about potential changes to Bridges sometime this spring.  We want to hear from you regarding the addition of streaming video, as well as current purchasing restrictions, due to budget. We are starting with this small video collection, as it is likely that if we choose to add streaming video as a larger collection, it will mean an increase in fees.  We also want to hear your success stories and any concerns you might have.  We will have more information available as we get closer to scheduling those sessions.
This is our early  “Holiday present” to you and your patrons!

 Thanks!

The Bridges Team

Timesheets due Tuesday, December 22

Do you ever wonder what my role is when it comes to timesheets?  It’s simple:

1.  I compare total hours worked as recorded on your timesheet to total hours worked as reflected in When to Work.  If they don’t match, I have to determine why.  I will always default to WTW as being correct.  That’s why it’s important that you check WTW and communicate any needed changes to your supervisor.

2.  I make sure you sign your timesheet.  That’s why I ask for you to sign-in when you receive it – so you don’t forget – timesheets must be signed before they are taken to City Hall.

3.  If you are eligible for paid time off (PTO) and have taken PTO in a given payperiod, I make sure that a PAR has been completed and that the PAR and the PTO match.

4.  Then I turn over the timesheets for Eric, he approves, signs and delivers to City Hall.

With the holiday closings next week, please have your completed timesheet turned in by 8 pm on Tuesday, December 22.  I will work on them Wednesday and leave them for Eric to deliver first thing Monday morning.

As always, don’t hesitate to ask questions; if I don’t know the answer, I’ll find it for you.

Prepare Yourself for “Awesomeness”

We have gone live with “Awesomeness.” Patrons are now able to grab a red “Awesome Flag,” which is available inside the building by the book return slots, to put inside their favorite book, movie or cd. Circ staff will then mark the item as “Awesomed” in the catalog after they have checked the book in. (Molly will be sending more detailed info to Circ Staff regarding this process).

You can also search items that have been “Awesomed” on the PAC. To search awesomed items, you need to be looking for a specific type of item, i.e. books, music, movies, etc.

Ask Eric or Molly if you have questions.

Thanks! You’re awesome.

If that’s not possible, allow the patron to leave the gift here and then phone Community Ed to let them know another pick-up is needed – 278-0552.

Wessing Gingerbread House

Sarah Wessing stopped in today and said that we are free to do as we please with their Second Place Winning gingerbread village.  She said if she were to take it home, it would just be thrown away.  I noticed a sign in the display case next to the Ref Desk about gingerbread house winners.  The individual houses are not attached to the board if one wants to display them in the case.

As always, please verify that When to Work and your timesheet match before turning them in.  If they don’t, check with your supervisor.  And don’t forget that a PAR must accompany any timesheet with PTO.

Leave your signed and completed timesheet in the GREEN (formerly orange) folder outside of Eric’s office on or before Wednesday, December 9.

Thanks!
