Helping Patrons with Libby
The original Overdrive App has been discontinued as of May 1. Although this planned sunsetting of the app has been communicated to users for over a year, some patrons are just now realizing they have to use Libby. Here are some tools you can use to assist patrons.
Leave Benefits
For quick and easy reference, I have printed and laminated Section IV Leave Benefits – Paid and Unpaid (pages 18-24) from the City of Johnston Employee Handbook. The laminated pages can be found hanging from a magnetic hook on the shelving outside of Eric’s & Molly’s offices, near the green time sheet folder.
Federal 1040 Instruction Booklets
All of the instruction books for federal form 1040 are on the counter. We do not have any additional supply. When these are gone, they’re gone.
Shred Day
The public loves shred day! We’ve received our first inquiry if AARP will be sponsoring a shred day to be held at JPL. The answer is yes BUT the date has not yet been confirmed. The tentative date is April 29, 2023, 9am-Noon. More details to come.
Federal and State Tax Forms
Instructions for Federal 1040 & 1040-SR have arrived. As well as a small quantity of Federal 1040-SR forms. I’ve printed 50 copies of the Federal 1040 form and 50 of the Iowa 1040. Additional copies will be arriving in the near future, in the meantime, just print forms (only) from the Federal and State websites. The links are available on the JPL website.
Time Sheet Week!
Remember that during this pay period, January 15-28, that the library was closed on Monday, January 16 in observance of MLK Day.
New Library Calendar Goes Live Monday January 2, 2023
Beginning Monday, all study room reservations, meeting room requests and program registrations should be entered into the new calendar.
Each service desk has diagrams explaining the steps for handling rooms and registrations. Peg, Megan and Beth are happy to walk through the steps with you.
We anticipate the first week using the calendar to have some bumps, but not many. Please ask questions and share feedback.
Megan is preparing short videos that staff can watch to learn how to handle requests as well.
Time Sheets Due Thursday
It’s the last pay period of 2022. Thank you for being diligent in getting your time sheets into the green folder each pay period and notifying me of last-minute changes. The number of corrections needed each pay period continues to decrease which makes verifying your hours so much easier.

Time Sheets Due Early
This is my Friday off. Please turn your time sheets in by Noon on Thursday so that I can double-check them Thursday afternoon. Remember the library was closed 11/24 and 11/25; make sure to update your time sheet appropriately. Thanks!
