City Employee Appreciation Tailgate

It’s almost time to celebrate!

We’re just one week away from our annual Employee Appreciation Tailgate and everyone is invited to join the fun! Mark your calendars for Friday, September 6, at noon on the City Hall patio.

The Employee Engagement Committee has been working hard to make this year’s event one to remember. We will have Flame Taqueria catering again, serving up a taco and burger bar. We’ll have a bags tournament (sign up during lunch, solo or with a partner), BINGO with prizes, volleyball and other yard games. Come show off your team spirit and celebrate your fellow City of Johnston teammates.

What this means for JPL Staff: The library will close at noon to allow all staff to attend without worrying about desk coverage. This is a work event and any staff who choose to attend will be paid for the time they spend at the event. If you are scheduled to work that day and you do not wish to attend the party, you may work your regular shift at the library (your manager can provide tasks if you need something to do), take PTO, or, if you do not earn PTO, you may take unpaid time off. Please see your manager with any questions.

PS desk PCs

To help keep the PS desk PCs operating properly, it is important to keep the PCs situated toward the front of the shelf. When the PCs are pushed back, the items plugged into the back can be damaged and require replacement.

Thank you for helping to keep these PCs running smoothly!

Replacement Keyboard / Mouse

If you need a replacement keyboard or mouse, you will find some on the IT counter. I keep a couple of each for the quick “grab and go” swap out. Please let me know if I need to restock. Any equipment that has been replaced or needs attention can be left with me. Thanks!

September Tailgate Party

I can’t believe summer and June are already here! It is time to start planning the City Employee Appreciation Tailgate Event. These next few months will fly by and I need everyone’s input to help create a fun event. I appreciate any feedback regarding last years tailgate (e.g., did you like the catering, timing, games, etc.) as well as any suggestions regarding this years event. As always, we do have a budget to consider, so we will be holding the event at a city location, but we are open to budget friendly ideas for games, food, etc. The Employee Engagement Committee wants everyone to feel welcome and your ideas will help us to accomplish that goal.

The committee will be meeting on Thursday, June 13 to begin planning. I would like to have some preliminary ideas to share with the committee.

I am very grateful to all of you for your input! I am happy to receive your ideas or suggestions as an email or a note. I also enjoy when you stop by my desk and share your thoughts.

I look forward to hearing from you!

Keys – Part 2

Most of the keys from the owl key chain have now been identified as spares. They have been labelled and are hanging with other spare keys in the grey money cabinet.

The owl key chain is being used to hold the unidentified keys and can also be found in the grey money cabinet.

All keys have now been removed from the director’s office. Please feel free to ask if you have any questions.

Keys

I am labeling and finding new homes for the keys that were stored in the director’s office. You will now find the keys for the moveable wall, the grey money cabinet, the cash register, and the coin-op on the east side of the mailboxes.

The owl key chain is still in the director’s office. I will post an update once the keys on the owl chain have been identified, labeled, and relocated.

Director’s Office Update

With the interviews fast approaching, I will be working to finish the Director’s Office. It will no longer be available for storing or staging items as we have done in the past. Please plan to remove any items you currently have stored. Anything left after Wednesday, 3/20 will be disposed in an appropriate fashion. Please feel free to email or see me with any questions.

Electronic Recycling

I have emailed South Central Iowa Electronic Scrap for recycling collection. I relocated most of the items into the Director’s office. There is a sign to help Mr. Butcher know which items are for recycling. Included in the stack is a container full of smaller items such are power cords, mice, and keyboards. He is welcome to keep the container. He usually requests use of the grey cart to move the items to his truck.

Typically, he does not accept any power packs or loose batteries for recycling. If there are items he chooses not to accept, leave them in the Director’s office and I will see if I can come up with a different solution.

Thanks!

Thanks!

YA Manga and GN

We are currently in the process of re-cataloging and relabeling YA Manga and GN (graphic novels). Some of the Manga series are cataloged under the author’s name as well as the title. If you are having problems locating an item, try looking in both places. Please see me or Molly if you have any questions.

The Self Checkout Station is out of order. I have shut it down and placed a sign in front of it directing patrons to the circulation desk.

Employee Appreciation Event Impressions

Hi All!

The Library Board very kindly approved an early closing to allow staff to attend the Employee Appreciation Event. I have heard from a couple of attendees, and I am so happy the food was tasty and the games were fun. If you attended, please share your impressions with Molly or me so that we can let the Library Board know how you felt. Thank you for those who have already shared your impressions.

Reminder – Library Closing Early for City Employee Appreciation Event

The library will close at 12 pm on Friday, September 8, 2023 to allow staff working to attend this event without worrying about desk coverage. This event will be paid for staff that are regularly scheduled during the event. Everyone is encouraged to come have fun. Staff that are regularly scheduled on that Friday will be asked to return to the library to work until the end of their shift or they are welcome to speak with Molly and Peg about using PTO or taking unpaid time if they prefer to leave after the social event winds down.

Molly

The Employee Committee is excited that the library will be closing at noon in order to allow our staff to attend this year! They are looking forward to seeing everyone.

The Library Board would like to hear our opinions about the event. Please share your impressions with your supervisor or Lori F.

Thanks!

For your Time Sheet:

If you are regularly scheduled to work on Friday, September 8, from 12pm or later, please let me know your plans for that day so that we can insure WTW and your Time Sheet reflect the correct hours you should be paid.

Note that Saturday the 9th is the end of the pay period, so if we can think about this prior to the 6th, it should eliminate last minute questions when I’m verifying time sheets.

Thanks!

Peg
