Hello!

The winners of the Teen Readers Grand Prize Prize Packs have been drawn and notified by phone. They can pick up their prizes at the Youth Services Desk.

Prize packs are located on the back counter AND the center work table — each is labeled with which prize pack it is and the winner’s name.

Please note that some of the prize packs contain multiple items — I have used blue tape to stick them together so you know that they all belong to one prize pack. You can remove the tape before giving it to the winner.

Also! If the winner seems into it, and you feel into it, you can ask to take a picture of the winner with their prize. There is an iPad to the right of my phone on my desk you can use. This part is totally optional!  (But would be really cool!)

Hello!

JPL will host a Teen Summer Book Club called (drumroll, please!) The Five Star Scale Teen Summer Book Club!!  Books for participants will be located where the adult book club books are held and will use the same check-out method, with the exception that if a teen comes in to pick up a book and doesn’t have a library card and is unable to get one, please check the book out to the :YS account so they can still be sure to get the book.

Just a few notes about Teen Summer Reading prizes for those of you who will be working the YS Desk this summer.

I have added a Book Sale Coupon as an option at the candy bar prize level for kids or families who might not enjoy a sugary prize.

I’ve also included Book Sale Coupons in the prize drawers as an option for kids who don’t want/can’t use one of the other prize options. For example, kids might know they will be out of town during the final laser tag party, so we can offer the Book Sale Coupon as an alternate prize.

If prizes run low in any of the drawers or the Candy Caboodle, refills can be found on the green shelving under the clock in the YS workroom. Coupons are located in a blue bin next to the candy. Feel free to refill as needed, or send me a Slack to let me know we are running low on prizes, and I will refill.

Due to low enrollment and severe weather, the Teen Tutoring Night originally scheduled for Sunday, Jan. 14 has been postponed to Sunday, Jan. 28.

I have also posted the winners on Facebook, Instagram, and posted signs in the library at the YS Desk, on the Teen Space doors, and on the whiteboard in the YA section.

Winners have been told to pick up their prize packs at the YS Desk. Prize packs are located on the back counter in the YS workroom to the left of the sink. All prize packs are labeled with the winner’s name.

If the winner seems really excited and you feel comfortable, I’d love to get a picture of the winner with their prize. You can use the YS iPad to do this. It will be plugged in on the back YS workroom counter to the right of the sink. This part is completely optional — just if you want to and the kid seems into it.

Greetings!

Get your gobble on everyone because today begins Day 1 of the Great JPL Turkey Scavenger Hunt!

Our turkey friend will be hiding in a new spot every day. (You’ll know him when you see him. He is on an orange piece of paper with the message “Gobble! Gobble! You found me!” written above his head.) When you find him, write down your name and his location on the prize slips provided in the break room for a chance to win a FABULOUS  GRATITUDE, GOBBLES, & GIGGLES WEEK PRIZE PACKAGE!

We will limit his location to staff-only areas, the Commons, and the book drop room. No need to run all over the library looking for him. 🙂

The turkey will be in a new location every day, so there are many chance to WIN! Feel free to give friends hints and clues to his location! (Hot and cold game, anyone?)

Hey all!

I need your help judging the best Glue Gun Art Challenge entry.

For this challenge, kids were given a bag of random craft materials and a glue gun and told to create a fabulous piece of art. The art they created is on display on top of the bookshelves in the Children’s Dept.

If you could take a few minutes to look at the art and then write down your top 3 favorite pieces, I would be forever grateful. (They are all really amazing and there is no way I can decide which is my favorite!)

I’ve left paper and pens and a container to put your votes in on the YS work room table. When voting, write down the title of the piece and the artist’s name.

Deepa and Missy’s going away party is this Wednesday, June 24 at 4:30 on Zoom. Let’s make it the most happening Zoom party ever so that they change their minds and decide to STAY! 🙂
