Currently, Book Club facilitators, (beth, dreama and stephanie) are in contact with their book club members to get them book club books. When attendees let facilitators know they would like a book, beth, dreama or stephanie will check out books to patrons with the extended check out date for each club and arrange a time for patrons to ring the staff door bell to grab the book. Book Club facilitators are putting checked-out books that are awaiting patron pick-up by the “In” sign outside dreama’s office. Books are marked with patron’s name. Book club facilitators most of the time will be the person who is around to give the book to the member when they come to the staff door to pick it up, but, should you have a surprise visit–book club books that are already checked out to patron’s should be in this spot outside Dreama’s office.

This is your friendly reminder that Beth, Jessica, and Megan will be hosting a Summer Reading overview to talk about how Summer Reading is being run this summer and the programs we will be hosting throughout the summer.  We will be hosting a Zoom meeting on Wednesday, May 20 at 6:30PM. The meeting will be recorded and will be made accessible if you are not able to join us live.

I have scheduled two All Desk trainings to go over Public Services things including faxing, public PC’s, the public copier/printer, etc. Trainings are scheduled for Friday, March 27 at 1:00pm and Sunday, March 29 at 1:00pm. Hello All,

Tax season is upon us so I wanted to submit a friendly reminder about info and services we offer during this time, as well as info and services we do not offer.

Eric has made our tax link live on our website. It is under our Services tab. This is the most expedient way to link people to printable forms for Iowa and Federal tax forms. The link also has info about what government offices people need to go to if they want to pick up their tax forms in person.

JPL will be receiving basic printed federal tax forms, mainly the 1040 form, but we have no way of knowing the exact date they will arrive. It will most likely be around the end of January or early February. The tax link on our website also has information about free tax preparation people can take advantage of if they are interested. AARP offers free tax prep, as well as United Way. Links to those sites with location and date and time info is posted there.

During this time, it’s important to remember that we do not provide tax advice or information to people, in the same way we do not provide medical or legal information to people. Just a friendly reminder that we can connect people to services and organizations that do provide this information, but we are not the information ourselves.

We were contacted by a representative from the Animal rescue Craft Guild to see if our Saturday Morning Knitting Group wanted to help knit mittens, pouches, nests and jumpers for animals who have been displaced in Australia due to the wild fire. I spoke to Erica, our crafting person, and she liked the idea. After Saturday Morning Knitting is over on 1/11, there will be a basket on the green cart behind the ref desk with the ARCCG logo in case anyone wants to drop off knitted items. These items will be collected by the group and shipped to animals in need. Should anyone want a copy of the patterns, the links are below. Thanks! Ask beth if you have questions.

Hello All, Particularly PS People:

The security certificate issue also seems to be affecting meeting room reservations. I have one reservation waiting to be approved that made it through the system, but where I wasn’t able to see that any specific room was checked. Until the website is back in good working order, probably will be the 27th or 28th when Eric gets back, I would not approve any meeting room reservations. I am happy to announce that Lydia has accepted a part-time position with the PS dept here at JPL. She will be taking over Abbi’s hours on Mon, Tues, and Thurs evenings. Welcome to the Ref Desk, Lydia!

Bittersweet news: Abbi has accepted a position as an adjunct librarian at DMACC and will be leaving her responsibilities at the PS desk. Her last day with PS will be January 9th, but we will still get to see her around because she will continue some hours with the TS dept here at JPL.  Please join me in congratulating her on her new job.
