Ceiling Leak near restrooms
We have a small leak in the ceilling near the restrooms. I have filed a repair claim with the roof warranty company.
Update: Fax/Public Phones Are Working Again
We are not able to send/receive faxes, and the public cordless phones are not working. They all share a phone line, and it doesn’t have a dial tone. I have reported the problem to Molly and Eric.
Update: We have a dial tone again, so faxes and the public cordless phones are once again available to use.

Office and Processing Supplies
I have asked Sheryl to go through the processing and office supplies in the workroom. If you can’t find something while we’re sorting, please ask either Sheryl or me.
Once we have everything re-organized, we’ll give you a guided tour.
Lost front door keys
The keys to the front doors are missing. We have searched thoroughly here at the library. Would you please check your bags, pockets, etc. at home. Thanks.
New Sousa setup in the Large Meeting Room
People from Civic Music or the New Sousa Band may be stopping by the library between now and Sunday to drop off items for the New Sousa concert. Please let them into the Large Meeting Room to drop off their stuff, then lock all meeting room doors when they are done.
The staff entrance to the meeting room can remain locked for cleaning until Sunday night.
Thanks!

New Public Services Librarian
I’m pleased to announce that Beth Stevens has accepted the Public Services Librarian position. Beth has revitalized the library’s adult programs, maintained a very well attended book discussion group, and–through monthly articles in Johnston Living, authoring of library press releases, design of the JPL logo and countless posters and fliers–become the library’s one-person communications and marketing department. She’s looking forward to new responsibilities and opportunities in this new role which she’ll begin Monday, July 27th.
Batteries, Ink Cartridges, Phones
We are no longer recycling phones, batteries, or ink cartridges for the public. We will continue to collect eyeglasses for the Lions Club.
BRIDGES+ WILBOR
The transition from WILBOR to Bridges is happening early. Overdrive will be inaccessible in one form another most of the day Wednesday.
Outdoor Umbrellas
Our outside umbrellas have arrived…and someone needs to be responsible to ensuring they’re closed each evening. Public Services staff will close the umbrellas near closing time each night or when a storm or winds are forecast and open them on weekends (I will open them weekdays). I’ve included instructions below for times when they need to be closed quickly and PS staff are not available.
There is no crank.
To close the umbrellas:
- Pull the pin from the shaft near the top (you’ll probably need to have at least one foot on the table to do this (sorry)
- The umbrella will come down with a light tug.
- Once it’s down, tie it closed with the attached tie.
To open the umbrellas:
- Untie the umbrella
- Push the collar up the shaft (this is not easy but you are strong)
- The umbrella will come to a sort of resting place at the top. Put the pin in to hold it up.
